Running B2B and B2C from the same Shopify store means your wholesale customers expect different payment options — bank transfer, net-30 invoicing, or purchase order approval — while retail customers expect card and wallet options. Shopify shows the same payment methods to everyone by default.
The B2B Payment Problem on Shopify
If you enable bank transfer as a payment option, all customers see it — including retail buyers who might select it and then fail to transfer, creating unfulfilled orders. If you disable it, wholesale customers cannot use the payment method their finance teams require.
The solution: show bank transfer only to customers tagged as wholesale.

In Shopify, tag each wholesale account with ‘wholesale’ or ‘b2b’. You can also automate this via Shopify Flow when an account is approved.

Optionally hide card payments for wholesale above a threshold
Some B2B setups prefer to steer large orders to bank transfer. Rule: Hide card payment methods when customer tag = ‘wholesale’ AND cart total is greater than £500. Large wholesale orders are directed to bank transfer; smaller wholesale orders still have card as an option.

- Show ‘Pay by Invoice’ only to approved wholesale accounts
- Hide BNPL (Klarna, Afterpay) for wholesale customers — business accounts should not use consumer credit
- Show COD only for domestic retail orders, hide for all B2B and international

Can I require wholesale customers to pay by bank transfer only?
Yes. Hide all other payment methods (card, COD, wallets) when customer tag = ‘wholesale’. Only bank transfer remains. Use with care — most wholesale buyers still prefer flexibility on smaller orders.
